Sophomores and Juniors in the History and Literature field of concentration will have a chance this spring to compete for two prizes, each amounting to fifty dollars worth of books, which were an annual award in pre-war days. Elliott Perkins '23, lecturer on History and tutor in History and Literature, said last night.
The two awards, discontinued in 1943 because of the war, are the Barrett Wendell Prize, given to the Sophomore "who has made the most notable progress during the year," and the History and Literature Prize, founded by an anonymous donor, which goes to a Junior with roughly the same qualifications.
The Sophomore award will be made after a competition of the five highest candidates late in March, Perkins said. The prize to the Junior will be given on the basis of academic record, and the honors exam taken by History and Literature majors at the end of their third year.
