With a cry for his "Mammy" and a Jolson-like rasp agitating his Adam's apple to the tune of "You Made Me Love You," Edward M. Lamont '48 tossed his Hasty Pudding and Eliot House inhibitions to the winds of the Loew's State air conditioner last night and triumphantly made his way to the finals of the publicity-born Al Jolson singing jamboree.
As bobby-soxers shrieked, old-timers joyously acclaimed a return to the golden days of vaudeville and theatre manager James Tibbets rubbed his hands in delight over his new minstrel discovery. "Jolson would be proud of that boy," he enthused. "He's one of the best singers I've heard in years.'
As yet neither the press agents of Hollywood or Radio Row have thrust a dotted line before the weary winner.
