Drive Head Lauds College Buying of Christmas Stamps

Praise for University generosity in past campaigns came yesterday from Miss Mary Brown, executive secretary of the Cambridge Tuberculosis Association, as she announced the opening of the forty-first annual Christmas seal drive, for $27,000 locally.

"Over 40 percent of the College students to whom seals were mailed last year sent in substantial contributions," she explained. All funds for the fight against tuberculosis come from the sale of Christmas seals.

Two mobile X-ray units, purchased from the donations of previous years, will process 1000 Cambridge applicants per day this spring, free of charge.

179 Cases Spotted

Maintenance charges of the machines and cost of film and developing make up the main part of this year's record budget. In the past year, 179 local cases of early tuberculosis were discovered by means of chest X-rays.

"College veterans who have seen the affects of tuberculosis on entire populations abroad will certainly realize the urgent need of wiping out the disease at home," Miss Brown stated.

Early detection by means of X-rays, she emphasized, is the best weapon against tuberculosis.

Seals will be sent through the mails to students shortly. A sheet of 100 will come in each envelope.
