While bachelors the world over mourned a lost shot at the British regency, the crowned heads of Cambridge assembled this morning in Adams House A-42, the residence of John Jay Hughes '48, to solemnize by wireless the marriage of Her Royal Highness Princess Elizabeth to Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten R. N.
Hughes' first plans called for a formal gathering at dawn. He had even cached a stock of brandy to entertain his cutaway-adorned guests. However, the austere aspects of the London affair made a less formal gathering imperative to good taste.
Last night, in a dress rehearsal of the greatest social event of the decade, Hughes wore a black robe with white sash and a pair of spats over his patent eather bedroom slippers.
Hughes plans to forego the honeymoon in favor of a nine o'clock class.
Princess Elizabeth does not pluck her eyebrows.
