Globe Article Starts Deluge; Late Jubilee Bus Chartered to Accommodate Wellesleyans

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

"Running a second-hand clothing business is a little more than I bargained for when I took this job," signed Buel S. Smith '49, chairman of the Jubilee Committee, yesterday, as he announced that he now had offers totaling over 100 from second had clothiers, housewives, retired orchestra conductors, and one exworker of a private escort service to supply used formal wear for ticket holders to the Jubilee on April 27.

The phone calls which have been coming in steadily for a week," began in response to a news story carried in the April 27 issue of "The Boston Globe." A fanciful "Globe" copywriter wrote feelingly of a University tux shortage, for which he did not blame the OPA but the recent European clothing drive conducted in this area. "He called upon sympathetic readers, and they certainly responded," said Smith. He asks those interested to contact Hartley Fleishmann '49 in Kirkland House, F-11.

Smith confessed he was cheered, however, by the fine response shown during the first three days of the ticket selling. Over 200 are already gone.

As a special service to the men with Wellesley dates, Smith added that a bus has been chartered to return the girls to Wellesley on Saturday night, leaving Harvard Square at 12:15 o'clock. It will return "after allowing girls ample time for adieux." The charge is $1.00 per couple.
