Quintet To Oppose Chelsea In Warm-Up Match Tonight

With only nine days remaining before the first game in the N.C.A.A. tournament, the Varsity quintet will play its last scheduled contest of the season tonight at Chelsea against the Naval Hospital team. Though previously beaten twice by the Crimson, the Sailors are expected to provide stiff opposition as the Stahlmen try for their nineteenth victory in twenty games.

Last Friday the Varsity welcomed Wyndol Gray back into action by beating Boston University, 55 to 41, in an unofficial practice game at the Indoor Athletic Building. With the exception of a few minutes early in the second half when the Terriers narrowed the margin to five points, the game was pretty much a replica of the two previous encounters.

Last week's 77 to 54 victory over Chelsea was a poor indication of how closely the two teams are matched. Recently reinforced by Roy McCaslin, high-scoring teammate of Bob Myers on this season's Dartmouth quintet, the Sailors combine an aggressive offense with remarkable accuracy from all corners of the court.

Tonight's game will provide Wyndol Gray with an opportunity to surpass the season scoring record of N.Y.U.'s Sid Tanenbaum. Both players now stand at 269 points for the season, Gray after 14 games and Tanenbaum after 20. The sprained ankle which kept him out of four games has, however, probably put Tony Lavelli's record of 320 points just beyond reach.

Almost unnoticed in the last Chelsea game was the fact that, by notching 21 points, speedy Don Swegan boosted his three-year scoring record above the 500-mark, reaching a total of 501. A scorekeeper's error almost deprived him of this achievement, however, when he scored a basket just as Lou Decsi was being fouled.
