Adjustment of Union dining hall rules to conform with veterans' clothing problems and changing styles has been effected by the Union Committee in a move permitting any field jackets and other parka-type garments to be substituted for suit coats at morning and noon meals.
Effective today, neckties will be required for all meals, but suit coats will be necessary only at supper. Still on a temporary basis, the new regulation will be rescinded if the personal appearance of diners deteriorates.
The prevalence of GI clothing, the comparative scarcity of civilian garb, and the popularity of parka jackets made the move advisable, according to William C. Bradford, secretary of the Union.
