High heat and (perhaps mercifully) low light have dominated the debate on the wisdom of Harvard's quasi-conversion to coeducation. Is it perhaps not time to judge the matter, dispassionately, on the bare essentials?

The verdict, it seems plain enough, must rest on the answer to a very simple question.

The object of proper policy is at all times to elevate the standards of education. Does the presence of Radcliffe in the Yard cause the Harvardian to raise his sights, or to lower them?
