Dunster-Deacons Grid Clash Opens Inter-house Fight

Notre Dame, Army, and Texas will be shoved back to the sidelines tomorrow afternoon when the football-conscious nation focuses its field-glasses on the initial battle in the inter-House campaign.

Kirkland, on the basis of previous years performances and its deceptive attack from the T formation, is slightly favored by the bookies to take a rugged-looking bunch of Funsters from Dunster in the season's opener.

The other one of the pair of tilts scheduled for opening day, between Lowell and Winthrop, has been postponed because of a change in the Puritans' coaching staff. The vacant spot in the schedule is expected to be filled by a practice game for the Bellboys this week against an eleven from the Yard.

Timing Tough for T

Timing may be the bugaboo or the salvation for Pete Igo's Deacons for the T is a hard taskmaster, especially for the House squads, whose practice sessions are hampered by labs and afternoon classes. A scrimmage against Leverett last week and one against Adams yesterday found the Kirkland eleven alternately clicking and being smeared.

Relying heavily on a ground offensive behind one of the biggest House lines, the Funsters, under the tutelage of Adam Elcewicz, took it easy in practice yesterday, after a contact-session with Dudley last Thursday.

Eliot, the dark elephant in intramural football, unveiled its mysterious snake dance plays against the Commuters in a well-matched contact-session; but most of the Mastadons gains came via the air. Dudley showed strength sweeping the ends, although its passes were intercepted by Eliot's radarlike defense.

Bunnies Confident

Boasting a number of experienced ball-players and a brick-wall defense, the Leverett Bunnies are confident of confounding any odds-makers who have them as the underdog because of their ragged offensive. They showed power against Kirkland last week in a scrimmage and may well emulate their champion predecessors.

Lowell, having previously showed a comparative wealth of backfield material and a heavy line, uncorked an unstoppable passing attack in a session with the Yard squad yesterday. In addition, a well-knit defense gives evidence that Coach Tom Horne's charges will be a formidable factor in deciding which House walks off with the Clark trophy.

The Gold Coasters' chances appear to be a little tarnished by the fact that they rarely have enough men out at one practice to run through any plays. Against Kirkland in scrimmage, they were forced to borrow three players in order to field a team and on previous occasions Adams has had as few as five reporting for practice.

Winthrop, without a permanent coach until yesterday, has had little opportunity to show anything; but a scrimmage with the Bellboys last week had a strong turn-out.
