Council Delays Plans For Fall Term Election

Meeting yesterday afternoon for the first time this term, the five remaining members of the Student Council drew up plans for the coming year, including an election of new members and officers which will be held in late November or early December.

Clinton M. Ritchie, Jr. '47, president of the Council, stated yesterday to the SERVICE NEWS that "the immediate objective of the Council is to build itself up to its peacetime strength, and to assist undergraduate activities back to a normal footing."

Following a constitutionally-provided procedure, the present Council will appoint four new members this coming week. The election later in the term will provide five more members, and will also determine the new officers for the Council.

The nomination procedure which will be used in the coming election calls for nominations by the Council of four or five prominent students for every vacant post. These nominations are based on recommendations by the House masters and senior tutors, and on general recognition of prospective candidates. In addition to these names, nominations may be made from the student body by submitting petitions bearing at least 35 names.

Elections are being delayed until November in order to insure a wise choice of candidates; "any group that would be nominated now would be known to only a small fraction of the College," declared Ritchie.

In addition to the president, the Council is now composed of John B. Cadigan Jr. '48, representing the commuters, and Jerome E. Andrews, Jr. Peter G. Harwood, and Roswell B. Perkins, all the Naval ROTC
