SKI TEAM PREPARES TO COMPETE IN ALL MEETS

Almost a dozen men have already undertaken to thaw out competitive skiing from its wartime ice block by mapping out a busy series of events, from preseason conditioning next month through all the major and minor collegiate meets this winter, according to John Kennedy '47, ski team manager.

Kennedy, a former Williams man and veteran of the 10th Mountain Division, added that the Ski Club's huts on the Pinkham Notch road and on Mt. Washington would be ready for the use of all club members as well as the team before the first snows.

Tom Grimley and Al Butler, both in NROTC, form the experienced nucleus of those who have already applied for their Eastern Slope Amateur Ski Association memberships.

With athletic letters the reward if the team is large enough, leg-conditioning will start in a matter of weeks to include long-distance runs. On every possible winter weekend, downhill practice will be held in nearby Brookline and jumping practice in Waban. All training will count for athletic credits.

Although the team expects to specialize in the downhill and slalom events, jumpers and cross-country men are needed to round out the roster. The first real test will come with the Lake Placid Carnival in the latter part of December.
