Chief Dunlap ended on Tuesday all speculation about a playoff game between Companies C and E when he said flatly that the game between E and Lowell House, the replaying of a forfeited game, was not official, and would not count in the standings. Thus Company C is the undisputed winner of the softball intramural pennant.
The misunderstanding arose early in the season, when E was scheduled to play Lowell. The sailors didn't show up and Lowell was given the game by forfeit. An attempt was made recently to play again. For some reason, Company E once again decided not to appear. In the meantime, they had won all their other games, except one to Company C. Thus when C lost its last game, making their record six and one, E decided to play Lowell again. If they could beat the Bellboys they would also have a record of six and one, and would be entitled to a playoff game with C. They played Lowell and won, only to have Chief Dunlap, czar of the league, to rule the game as unofficial.
Meanwhile, the hardball campaign has gotten under way. In yesterday's only game, the first of the season, Company B got off to a good start by defeating A in extra innings, 11 to 8. It night be noted that Company B' was the only team to go through the softball season without winning a game. Company D vs. NROTC, the other game, was postponed until Wednesday.
Today will see Company C meeting Adams House and Company E playing Lowell. On Monday, Companies C and A will clash while the Bellboys will meet Company C in the other portion of the daily twin bill. Chief Dunlap says all games are to start at 3:45 o'clock and postponements will be played on Wednesdays.
