485 TRAINEES IN MED SCHOOL

A contingent of 160 V-12ers will go to work at Harvard Medical School today, having reported at Eliot House Thursday with the College V-12 men. Also at the Med School will be 325 Army men designated as Company B of the Army Specialized Training Unit at the University, Company A being the group stationed in Leverett House.

The Nave group will be issued midshipmen's uniforms but will not live in barracks. They will house and feed themselves on a standard subsistence allowance. They will have no drill but will be subject to Navy Discipline.

Gave Up Commissions

About half of them were previously commissioned on inactive duty as ensigns but resigned their commissions to go active duty. They have no special officer-in-charge but will be under the command of Captain George N. Barker, USN, head of all Navy schools at Harvard.

The Army group will be quartered in Vanderbilt Ball at the Medical School. They will return from a week of procession at Fort Devens as privates. Here they will be under discipline with military instruction, drill, and calisthenics.

Most of the students were formerly on inactive duty as 2nd Lieutenants of the reserve but resigned their commissions like the Navy men to go on active duty. The unit includes members of all classes at the Med School.
