Denied Winter Campus Housing, International Students Scramble to Find Alternative Options
On the unanimous recommendation of their Senior class officers, David E. Place '43, of Adams House and Wayne, Pa., and Brooks N. Heath '44, of Winthrop House and Auburndale, were appointed Class Agents for the Harvard Fund, each responsible for the raising of $100,000, David McCord '21, Executive Secretary of the Fund, announced last night.
Place, formerly manager of the football team, and Health, president of the Student Council and member of the Varsity baseball team, will solicit the sum which each class traditionally gives to Harvard College on the 25th anniversary graduation.
Founded in '25
The Harvard Fund, founded in 1925 and one of the most active and important alumni organizations, has already received $2,187,000 from 65 per cent of the living alumni of the College. The money, which is received at any amount over a dollar, is used by the University for anything it sees fit. Nathan Pereles, Jr. '04, Chairman of the Fund, announced last week that a total of 11.842 alumni contributed $139.136.84 to the Fund last year, setting a new record for such donations. The Fund has for the last eight years had more contributors than any other American university fund.
Place and Heath have already started their work, and Place's appeal has already gone out. Their policy will be not to ask for very large donations from members of their class, but to see that the class gets the habit of contributing as soon as they leave College.
