Flotsam and Jetsam of Company E

Navy Indoctrination and Communications School

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Company A was given a royal send-off by the members of E who attended the Regimental Ball and it will be a long time before the well-wishers to a graduating company will be felt as deeply as those extended by their buddies of E--God-speed.

It has been proved that a fellow can celebrate a birthday among his new found friends just as well as back home, so said James Fowell of Platoon No. 2. The E Boys made him feel right at home in a short hour celebration Friday night over a few tankards of ale . . . No casualties were reported to date.

Speaking of casualties, Middle Thayer had a bit of excitement when several rooms were given an early Spring Cleaning by Ole Man Conflagration . . .

Never again will an instructor of a new company use so little tact in his choice of nautical terms when he tells an E company man, "To break open a window", . . . that is, not with the high price of glass these days.

The men of E would like to offer their vote of thanks to the men who led them through their period of indoctrination in such a capable manner. The men who were so patient with us really deserve our thanks. Company Commander C. Travelstead; Section Leaders, J. J. Hessler, R. I. Wasserman; Adjutants, R. L. Riddle and R. B. Gailbraith; Platoon Leaders, W. J. Barth, F. V. Chew, T. F. Halsey, L. H. Leary, H. J. McNutt, A. J. Perrine, T. J. Stevenson and S. Silverman we salute you and hope you keep up the good work.

And so we pass into Dog's life.

Scene outside Matthews about five thirty Wednesday morning. While on watch.

Gratten: "Say--, what's the time?"

Second Sentinel: "Don't know--I have no watch."

Gratten in extreme disgust: "Some watch Officer--No watch--report to quarters."
