Displaying a record which includes victories over every Eastern Intrecollegiate Swimming League team except Yale, Princeton, and Harvard, the Dartmouth Mermen come to Cambridge tomorrow in an attempt to settle the last score. The Big Green will be heavily favored, but if the breaks go right the Crimson can still grab a victory.
Of course, on paper, the Ulenmen just don't stack up against the Hanoverlans, who have beaten Navy and swamped Columbia, both of whom have triumphed over the Crimson swimmers. They also hold victories over Army and Pennsylvania, but suffered a worse beating at the hands of Princeton than did the Cambridgeites.
Indians Have the Edge
Coach Hal Ulen stacks them up this way: the Indians ought to win, but they will have a fight on their hands to do it. They have a couple of Sophomores, Rolfe and Anderholm, who will give Daves Barnes and George Christman plenty of trouble in the 220 and 440 yard free style.
Two backstrokers, Mann and Dodd, should make things plenty hot for Ulen's charges. Ulen starts his doping of the meet by conceeding 13 points to the Green. This, of course, means that the Mermen will have to take almost every event not included in this first premise.
Crimson Scalps Wanted
Dartmouth will be gunning for the Crimson. Last year it won its first contest from Harvard in 14 years, and tomorrow it will be out to repeat. The squad opposing it will be stubborn although somewhat undermanned.
The Crimson's losses have lessened the team's potency by quite a bit, and its chances of winning are not too strong. But the Big Green is only one notch above in the League standings, so hope should not be completely abandoned. Swimming in the home pool will be to the Ulenmen's advantage.
The 13 sure points don't help the mermen any, and they will just have to dig in and try to limit the rest of their opponents' points to a very low figure.
Captain Johnny Eusden can probably be counted on to grab five, possibly ten points in the 50 and 100 yard free styles, Barnes and Christman should capture a fair amount, while the remainder of the squad will do its best to hold up their end.
The two rival teams will meet at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon, in the Indoor Athletic pool
