There isn't much point to concentrating on an airtight defense when the other team is out in front, so Johnny Chase is planning to trip up Murray Murdoch's masterminding by getting out in front and forcing the Elis to take the initiative. The championship of the Big Three will definitely be decided in the rubber game in the Boston Garden at 8:15 o'clock tonight.
To get this early lead, Chase is starting the so-called second line of Dick Harding, Albie Everts, and Johnny Burton--the high-scoring trio that did just that in the New Haven game 10 days ago.
A much more important factor in determining the victor of tonight's set-to is the fact that the Crimson had to have an off night sometime, and it was just unfortunate that it had to be against Yale.
Stressing this, Chase said that "Much too much is being made of that defense. Any team can play a bad game every once in a while, but if they're the club I think they are, they'll win tonight. And I don't expect to be disappointed."
No More Overconfidence
For one thing, overconfidence will no longer handicap the Varsity. That all vanished when the Blue assumed a 4-1 lead in the beginning of the second period Saturday, and at practice so far this week there has been no indication of its return.
At these two sessions, the squad has drilled on two things: getting the puck away from the Harvard cage after shots, and penetrating two, three, and five man defenses. Efficiency in these two departments would have made the difference last time, and unless Murdoch has a lot more unpredicted tricks up his sleeve, that should do the trick tomorrow night.
Aside from the switch up front, both teams will line up exactly as they did last time. Dick Mechem and Ollie Taylor will be the Crimson defensemen, with Goodie Harding in the cage.
