Eleven fighting Frenchmen from the battleship Richelieu invaded Soldiers Field Saturday afternoon to wrench a soccer decision from Coach Jack MacDonald's men, 3 to 1. In the earlier Jayvee game, the B team beat Exeter, 2 to 1.
What the French lacked in footpower, they made up in teamwork and passing. Although the Crimson could outkick the men of the Richelieu by a country mile, the Frenchmen were more adept at the arts of the game and, with steadier land legs, could probably have scored more often.
The hero of the Varsity game was Roger Lazarus, who was the beneficiary of a hole left when Bob Woodside drew off the French fullbacks. Lazarus used it to power the ball, driving it through the uprights into the high part of the net, out of the reach of the French goalie.
