Matters Will Resign Post; Nominations Made Tonight

Freshmen will be elected to the Student Council this week for the first time in history, President Thomas Matters '43 announced last night. A nominating committee headed by Thomas V. Keene, Jr. '45 will meet tonight to choose a slate for the four '46 posts.

Matters also revealed that he will tender his resignation as Council President at tonight's meeting, and that his successor would be chosen when the new body has been elected. John P. Kennedy, Jr. '44, recently chosen as treasurer, will continue in that position.

The exact make-up of the next Council is still in doubt, Matters said, and this problem is also on the agenda for this evening.

In last May's election, the last before the accelerated program changed the membership, six Juniors and three Sophomores were elected, and five Juniors and three Sophomores were later appointed.

This summer the first two men to hold office while Sophomores were chosen in a '45 election, and another member of the class was appointed early this semester. Present plans call for the appointment of one or two more Sophomores this week, but the Council may vote to have another election for '45.
