Don Forte '43, captain and regular right end, is the only man on the squad who started against Yale last year. An excellent pass-receiver, he was on the receiving end of touchdown tosses against Army and Yale in 1941. A chipped bone will keep him out of action for about a month.

Russ Stannard '43, right tackle, is the most experienced man from tackle to tackle, having alternated with Tom Gardiner during the Yale game last year. Originally a guard, he can shift back if an adequate replacement comes up for his tackle post.

Sid Smith '45, right guard, was on the Freshman team last year and moved right up to the Varsity. A demon on defense, the Georgia boy still needs a little more speed and finesse in pulling out of the line.

Jack Fisher '45, center, came from Andover to captain last year's Yardling eleven. Rangy and strong, he needs a bit of seasoning before he can be considered a top-notch pivotman.

Charley Gudaitis '45, left guard, completes the Sophomore monopoly on the center of the line. Although he never played any real football before coming to Harvard, he has responded to coaching so readily that he was chosen to take over Chub Peabody's position.

George Hibbard '44, left tackle, subbed for Vern Miller last year and saw enough action to earn his letter. This year he earned a regular post with his steady improvement.

Bill Barnes '43, left end, is one of the two men on the squad to have two football letters. Although he can't punt the way his predecessor Loren MacKinney could, he should fill MacKinney's shoes in almost every other respect.

Lloyd Anderson '44, blocking back, filled in as third-string center last year to relieve the emergency caused by Burgy Ayres' appendectomy, but now he is behind the line again where he feels more at home. A fullback at Andover, he shifted to the blocking post in spring practice.

Bill Wilson '44, wingback, is the most experienced backfield man on the squad. He started several games last year at tailback, but this year Harlow shifted him over to the wingback slot filled by Franny Lee, 1941 captain.

Don Richards '45, tailback, is the only member of the class who won his numerals in three major sports. He is a hard driving ball carrier, an average passer, and better defensively than most novices at Varsity football.

Wayne Johnson '44, fullback, is only a whisker ahead of Tom Cowen and Paul Perkins for the starting honors, although he was second man to Don McNicol last year and played almost the entire Penn game. Wayne will not only do a good share of the ball-toting, but much of the passing.

Len Cummings '44, left end is a newcomer to Varsity football, but Forte's injury gave him a starting berth. A rugged player, he showed up well in spring practice.
