The Fourth of July came again to Harvard, and moved on past in patriotic splendor, leaving in its wake no missing fingers, no powder-burned eyelids, no mangled remains of light-hearted auto drivers.

The holiday is traditionally followed by gory and moralistic tales of happy people, common people, who were struck down unknowing in the midst of play. There were none at Harvard this year. All was quiet. A loud explosion at 1:37 o'clock Saturday morning turned out to have been only a car backfiring.
