Heading into their second informal meet of the season, and the last scheduled event before the Heptagonals on May 16, the Crimson runners take on Holy Cross, Rhode Island State, and Northeastern tomorrow afternoon in what should provide some very good competition.
All three of the visitors have good teams, the Islanders' squad featured by Jack Kreuger, a powerful shot-putter and field events flash, while Mike Prodhodsky leads the Huskies. Prodhodsky will be running both the mile and the half-mile tomorrow.
Field Events Decisive
Although the meet will not be officially scored, the field events should decide the outcome, according to Coach Jaakko Mikkola. But the home forces will be handicapped by the loss of its record-breaking pole-vaulter, Mike Ford, who twisted his ankle in the B. C. meet last week, and will not be able to compete.
His absence, however, will be partly compensated for by the return of Tom Holyoke, who will be broad-jumping for the first time since the Dartmouth meet last winter. He and the speedily-improving Ted Bauer, who is hurdling and high-jumping as well, should bolster this department, formerly the weakest spot in the field events roster.
Most important lineup change for Saturday's racing is Fred Phinney's shift from the two-mile to the half. Next, Fred, usually a distance man, and next season's cross country captain, will double up with Bill Palson and Captain Bob Houghton, running the mile as well as the shorter event.
