Garber Privately Tells Faculty That Harvard Must Rethink Messaging After GOP Victory
For the first time since 1936, when Levi White claimed the honor, a Sophomore has been elected basketball captain, as the lettermen yesterday chose George M. "Bunks" Burditt '44 of La Grange, Illinois, and Winthrop House as leader of the 1942-43 edition of the Crimson quintet.
Burditt, who prepared for college at Lyons Township High School, is the second tallest player on the squad standing six feet, three inches while weighing a scant 155 pounds.
He was captain and leading scorer on his Freshman court team, and was considered one of the brightest Sophomore hoop prospects in recent years. Not only has he lived up to this expectation, but he has developed into one of the most polished basketball players in the Eastern Intercollegiate League this year.
Burditt High Scorer
In his first year of Varsity competition he became the Crimson's leading scorer, collecting 234 points for the entire season, and amassing 147 points for fourth place in the individual scoring race.
Up to the last three games this year he was pivot man for Earl Brown's starting five, but with the fast arrival of Hugh Hyde, a taller Sophomore, Burditt has shifted to a forward position.
