"In view of the recent appropriation by Congress of $36,000,000 to expand the Civilian Pilot Training program, it is probable that the University course sponsored by the C.A.A. will continue through the summer and next year," Howard W. Emmons, Faculty instructor in mechanical engineering and coordinator of the University training program said yesterday.
The second semester course, which was held up for several weeks pending word from the War Department, has already begun. As yet there has been no official word from Washington indicating whether the course will be continued after this term, but with the new appropriation it is probable that it will be. There was a possibility, right after the outbreak of war, that the Army would take over the program, but evidently it has decided not to.
A little over $20,000,000 has been recommended for the training program by the budget bureau, but the appropriation was increased to $36,000,000. This will be sufficient, it is estimated, to train 49,500 pilots.
