With formal Freshman sports definitely eliminated, Dartmouth is now considering a plan for compulsory physical education, but no conclusive program has yet been formulated, according to this morning's Boston Record.
Since all Freshman teams will be abolished, first year men will be permitted to compete on Varsity teams. Besides this, it is expected that some games will be arranged for the Freshmen with local schools, but these will be completely informal and no regular schedule is contemplated.
Even on the Varsity squads emphasis will be laid on physical toughening, according to football coach Tuss McLaughry. Freshmen who enter the college during the summer will take part in athletics immediately, and by fall McLaughry hopes that some of them will be ready for the rigors of Varsity participation.
It was also announced that Dartmouth will attempt to run a regular baseball schedule throughout the summer.
