An undefeated Governor Dummer team served the Freshman Varsity Soccer its first taste of defeat in the regular season by defeating the Yardlings. 3-1 yesterday afternoon on the Business School field. Dummer led throughout and was never threatened by a relatively inexperienced '46 aggregation.
The only Crimson score dented the visitor's not midway in the second period when Roger Lazarus connected on a close shot. Up to that time, the men from South Byfield had things pretty much their own way, piling up an adequate 2-0 lead.
Dummer Dominates 2nd Half
The last half contained numerous Yardling attempts to pierce the tight Dummer defense. But as the '46 booters weakened, the Blue warriors took the initiative and kept the ball well within Harvard territory.
Although lacking in scoring punch, the Yardlings seem to have great potentialities. All the elements of a good soccer team, speed, fight and aggressiveness are present on the '46 roster. What is needed and will probably be the remedy that Coach Macdonald has up his sleeve is experience in competition.
