University authorities would neither confirm or deny yesterday the reports in several Boston newspapers that Lord Hallfax, British Ambassador to the United States, will be given an honorary degree at the Commencement Exercises here on June 19.
Prognosticating the recipients of honorary degree is one of the favorites pastimes of Boston reporters at this time of year, but the University always keeps a vell of secrecy over the names of the candidates, and they are never revealed until Commencement Day itself.
Hallfax is expected to deliver an important speech during Commencement Week on the general subject of Angle-American relations, according to the report.
