Basketball Quintet Nips Quakers 40-39

By A.edward Rowse

Staving off a dangerous Quaker scoring threat in the last minutes of play, the Crimson basketball five nipped out bottom-place Pennsylvania 40 to 39 before a small crowd last night in the Indoor Athletic Building.

It was a sec-saw battle from the start to finish. Going into the second half leading 21 to 17, five quick point by Bob James gave the home team a commanding lead. The visitors, however, tied it up 30 to 30 at the midway mark.

Behind 40 to 35 with three minutes to go the visitors came up to within one point of a tie with two quick baskets by Tony Caputo and Ross Hahn. In desperate attempts to get the ball, they committed five consecutive fouls in the last minute.

The Crimson refused all of them in favor of keeping possession of the ball and took the ball on the sidelines each time. The summary: HARVARD gls.  fis.  pts.
