ELIOT UPSET DUNSTER 14-6

Winthrop Forfeits Game; Waters is Elephant Star

By Dan H. Fenn jr.

Although its ranks are riddled by hour exams, the House Football League managed to produce a couple of upsets yesterday afternoon, when Eliot's one man backfield. George Waters led the Elephants to a 14-6 victory over the Dunster Funsters, and, although Winthrop had officially forfeited the game, a team that was predominantly Puritans bowed to a lively Leverett squad, 7-0.

Flowing George scored both Eliot touchdowns, one with a cut-back that started as a run around his right end, and the other on a 60 yard return of a Dunster kickoff following a safety down the sidelines. The other two Eliot points were chalked up when a bad pass rolled through the Dunster backfield, already pushed back onto its own goal line on account of a holding penalty, and the whole Jumbo line broke through and smeared the Funster ball carrier.

Dunster scored first when Don Cole took the ball through tackle for seven yards and six points. Eliot had just held the Funsters for downs on their two-yard line, but Walter's attempt to kick was blocked, and was taken by Dunster on the Elephants seven. From their Cole, who was outstanding all afternoon, plowed over. The try-for-point, a drop-kick went wide of the uprights.

Puritans Draft Ringers

At game time, the Puritans could only produce six or seven players, but managed to draft several Ramblers and Gold Coasters that were standing around, and played anyway. The green shifted Rabbits won the game on one of the most beautifully executed plays we've seen this year, when, form a spread formation with left end Bill Eustis playing wide. John Hughes heaved a thirty yard pass to Eustis, who took it in the end zone.

That doesn't tell the story of the beautiful deception on the play, as long Bill paused on the line of scrimmage, and then legged it for all he was worth around in back of the Winthrop secondary, and over the goal line, where on the dead run, he took Hughes' toss for the only touchdown of the afternoon. To cap the climax, Bill Notz drop kicked a perfect conversion for the seventh point.
