Some of the prettiest soccer seen around Harvard in many a moon featured the Varsity's walloping of Brown by a score of 5-0 Saturday noon on Soldiers Field.
The Brown invaders, who, advanced reports indicated, were a powerful eleven, were completely overshadowed by the skillful, smooth functioning of Jim McDonald's aggregation. The Crimson booters, drilled in the principle of right over might, even matched the Bears in the hard-hitting type of game they play.
Calhoun Sinks Three
High scorer of the battle was Jack Galhoun, who stayed most of the game after relieving starting Buz Sawhill at center forward. Amazing bursts of speed and shifting accounted for the goals Calhoun tucked away in each of the last three quarters. Dick Gifford in the first and Eli Berman in the final period rolled the total up to five.
Throughout the contest, the Harvard defensive play was magnificent. The inner circles, fullbacks Olle Taylor and Bob Harison and goalie Captain Jack Pensen, advanced their mark to 264 consecutive minutes of seilon.
Center halfback Jack Clarke and right outside Mouree Herskovits, in addition to the backs, played the entire game, Herky, however, had two Rears stocked on him. Although he was bottled up as far as scoring was concerned, he succeeded in both centering the ball at the crucial moments and keeping the center open for Calhoun's tallies.
The Harvard lineup: g, Penson; rfb, Harbison; lfb, Taylor; rhb, Myerson, Slingerland, Truscott, Killam; chb, Clarke; lhb, Mallory, Darling, Matthews, Butcher; ro, Herskovits; rl. Drake, Staber; cf, Sawhill, Calhoun; lf, Gifford Dixon, le, Poor, Berman.
