Coach Chief Boston's Yardlings showed a marked improvement in play last Saturday, but it wasn't good enough to push back the still undefeated Brown Yearlings an the visitors romped to a 20 to 6 win on Soldiers Field.
Charlie Gudaitis, whose phenomenal rise to right end position on the starting lineup is one for the story books, accounted for the sole Crimson tally when he grabbled a 35-yard pass from Paul Perkins in the third period. Captain Jack Fisher's attempt for the extra point was blocked.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Bruins jumped to a 13 to 0 lead at the half. Regine, captain and center, made the first Brown touchdown on a long run after taking a lateral pass from De Angelis on the Crimson 45-yard line. It was a trick play that started on the Brown 40-yard line, where De Angelis, in turn, got the ball on a lateral from Babcock who had received Regine's center. Coogan made the conversion.
Coogan Passes to 20
The second Brown touchdown came in the same period as a Coogan pass to the Harvard 20-yard stripe set it up. From that point, Coogan moved it to the six-yard and De Angelis scored. The try for the extra point failed.
After the Crimson had made its score in the third period to come within seven points of the leaders, it looked as if the Yardlings were still in the ball game, but when the Brown Cubs put across one more touchdown in the last period, the outcome was no longer in doubt.
