DICK PFISTER TRIES TACKLE

Dick Harlow Pits "A" Against "B" for First Time This Year

By Donald Peddle

Dick Harlow sent his "A" team against the "B" for the first time this fall in a scrimmage highlighted by the switching of running guard Dick Pfister to right tackle. Tackle continues to be the number one problem child for the Crimson eleven, and Pfister may be able to help plug the gap.

The rapid improvement of converted end Joe Koufman and the rise of 147-pound Elisha Atkins and Joel Ferris, all at the running guard slot, have made that position well fortified. As a result, Coach Harlow can afford to give the stocky Junior a chance at tackle. Neither Don Lowry nor Tom Gardiner have quite been able to fill the hole left by Tom Healey's graduation, and tackle may prove to be a more logical spot for near-sighted Pfister than running guard.

Holden Bumped

George Heiden was the only casualty in the first "A" versus "B" scrimmage of the year, but the bump was not serious and he is not expected to miss any practice. Coach Harlow's first and second elevens were outstanding on the defense yesterday, but neither was able to show much on the attack. Charley Spreyer scrimmaged yesterday, spending the afternoon with the "B" outfit.

The center scrap continues to be an interesting one, with John Page and "Lone Star" Dietz shunting off letterman Burgy Ayres to the "B" team for the present. Dietz and George Duane, an end, were the last men to be elevated to the exclusive red jersey squad, bringing its total up to 20. Dick Harlow is having plenty of trouble selecting an additional 14 players and will have to postpone promotions as long as he can.

The Freshmen will report to Chief Boston and Joe Nee this afternoon at three o'clock.
