BROWN'S BAND LEFT H.P. PLAY TO AVOID UNION DIFFICULTIES

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Hasty Pudding Theatricals were still looking for an orchestra to play for its forthcoming production of "The Cretins' Retreat" when Stan Brown stated last night that he had voluntarily renounced a contract for his Crimsonians to play for the Pudding in order to avoid union trouble.

Leaders of the musicians' union here and in New York threatened to stage walkouts on the Pudding, if it hired a non-union orchestra. Brown explained that he could not afford to anger the unions since the Crimsonians intend to join the musicians' local here and to enter the commercial jazz field this spring.

Explaining that the Pudding will henceforth use only union help, John S. Parker '41, president of the Pudding Theatricals, said "Stan Brown has a fine band and we very much regret that he won't be able to play for us."
