The following letter written from a progressive state on the Pacific Coast was directed to a Professor of American Literature:

Harvard University

Cambridge, Mass.

I am to give a talk before a class and the character choosen is Ralph Waldo Emmerson. In gathering data I find he was a graduate of Harvard when only eighteen years of age, I surely will appreciate so much if you can give me any facts of dates regarding Mr. Emerson. I still remember my pleasant visit to your finest school in America and the glass flowers, any information will be so welcome. Yours sincerely,   J. . . . W. . . . .

The Professor is reported to have the letter under advisement.
