The nice thing about the day before elections is that everyone is so happily confident of his candidate's success.
The Harvard Willkie Club, for instance, went out on a limb for the G.O.P. yesterday, predicting 295 electoral votes as the likely total that would fall on their side of the ledger.
The Harvard Roosevelt Club, on the other hand, went even farther out on a limb, placing its estimate as between 325 to 350 for the Third Term.
Theodore J. Frazier '41, president of the Willkie Club, was spokesman for the Elephant, and he smiled broadly as he predicted a pachydermal victory. New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Missouri he regards as in the bag for Willkie.
John M. London '41, president of the Roosevelt Club, also smiled broadly as he predicted victory for the Donkey. He didn't stop with the paltry 22 states which the Republicans count on, but blandly reeled off 28 states which will certainly cast their ballots for the Democrats, and ten more which may very well do the same.
Someone is going to be disillusioned badly.
