Despite press reports from the Republican State Committee to the contrary, the Willkie Volunteers Committee of Cambridge was willing to bet its all yesterday that G. O. P. Presidential Candidate Wendell L. Willkie would give a 10 minute speech here at 2:40 o'clock this afternoon.
A special ramp for Willkie's car has already been constructed next to the subway wall near the Common. According to the local Willkie Committee, the Republican candidate will speak from his car over a public address system to people in the Common.
Arrangements for Willkie's speech here were announced on Wednesday, but Boston papers carried the report yesterday that he had cancelled his plans to speak in Boston suburbs in order to save his voice and to be on time for the rest of his schedule.
