DETROIT Mich, (UP) Columbia Lou Gehrig's great iron-man baseball record was abruptly cut short yesterday at 2130 consecutive games, and his mates took the occasion to go on a scoring spree and pound out 22 runs against the liap less Detroit Tigers.
The end came for Lou through a loudspeaker announcement that he had asked to be benched in favor of Babe Dahlgren. Following this baseball bombshell the cheers for Lou rang out as loudly as they ever did when he hit the mightiest of homers.
Gehrig went to Manager Joe McCarthy just before the game and said: "The whole team isn't going so good and I'm not going so good myself. I think that it would be better for me to get out of there for a while."
