Coach Jack Barnaby's Varsity neimen went down to a 7 to 2 defeat at the hands of the Miami University not squad, and Barnaby himself dropped a 7-5, 1-6, 6-1 exhibition match to Coach Gardiner Mulloy of the visitors, but the performance of the Crimson was highly satisfactory because the Southerners came to Cambridge boasting an undefeated record in singles contests.
Victors over Georgia, Mississippi, Auburn, and Emery, the highly ranked invaders have one of the strongest college teams in the nation. Number one man Dave Hurt gave the Crimson its first point by defeating Charles Mattman 8-6, 6-4, Walt Muther at number six took the other point by downing Louis Duff 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Captain Langdon Gilkey, John Palfrey, Chet Legg, and Jack Stewart of the Crimson dropped their singles matches, but not without a close fight in each instance. Two of the three doubles contests were carried into the third set, but both times the Florida boys simply had too many guns for their hard-working but slightly outclassed Harvard opponents.
