THREE NEW CAPTAINS PREPARED AT EXETER

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Three minor sports squads elected captains for next year as David G. Halstead '40 was chosen as the new lacrosse leader, William A. Cordingley, Jr. '40 for golf, and David S. Burt '40 for tennis.

Gordy Halstead has just finished his second season of regular play with the stickmen. He halls from New Canaan, Conn, and prepared at Exeter. As a Freshman he competed in soccer and lacrosse, winning numerals in both sports. He won his minor II in each as a member of the 1937-38 squads. Norman J. Richards '40 of Lexington succeeds Shirley S. Philbrick Jr. '39 as varsity manager.

Cordingley

Ace Cordingley of Des Moines, Iowa, this year's No. 1 man on the golf team, has been chosen to lead the 1940 linksmen. Cordingley came to Harvard from Exeter and won Freshman numerals in football, basketball, and golf. In the 1937-38 athletic year he competed in Jayvee football, Jayvee basketball, and varsity golf, winning a minor H in each sport. Last fall he broke his leg in football scrimmage and was not able to participate in any sports until this spring.

Burt

Dave Burt has played No. 1 man on the tennis team for the past two seasons, and his brilliant play has been climaxed by his election to the captaincy of the 1940 netmen. Burt prepared at Exeter and captained his Freshman team here at Harvard. As a member of the 1938 and 1939 varsity tennis teams, he won a minor H each year.

Joseph S. Stern '40 of Cincinnati, O., will succeed Constantine W. Patterson '39 as varsity tennis manager for the 1940 season.
