Because "she thought that Harvard had gone to the dogs" when she heard a rumor that "they had professors who were known radicals," Mrs. Caroline J. Adams of Palm Springs, California, decided not to leave Harvard a $1,000,000 bequest.
It was brought out at Suffolk Probate Court yesterday that the late Mrs. Adams, wife of a Boston textile tycoon, before her death last year expressed the fear that Harvard and possibly M.I.T. were fostering radical doctrines.
Though Harvard was left out in the cold, Tech received the income from a quarter of the estate for scholarships, but only "so long as radical doctrines were not taught."
