Varsity Batters Subdue Terrier Nine Behind Pitching of Schwede, Brackett

6 to 3 Victory Second in as Many Days For Steady Stahlmen; Base-running Shines

While limiting the Terriers to a scant three runs, Coach Stahl's victorious Varsity nine combined timely hitting with some nifty stepping on the bases to end up on the long end of a 6 to 3 count yesterday afternoon at Nickerson Field. The game was originally scheduled for a month ago, but was rained out.

Replacing Jack Schwede who pitched a steady game up to the shaky sixth and seventh frames, Charlie Brackett took the mound with the sacks loaded and one out in the seventh and faced only eight batters in chalking up the last eight enemy put-outs. It was the second time in as many days that Brackett has turned in a stutter relief job.

Leading the ten hit attack, Art Johns and Lupe Lupien each nicked the Boston University finger, Braun, for a single and a double in four trips to the plate. Rud Hoye connected for three timely bingles in six times at bat.

Sparkling on the bases, the Crimson runners turned in a total of eight stolen bags with Hoye, Dick Grondahl, and Lupien pilfering two apiece.

The Stahlmen opened their scoring early with one tally both in the first and second innings. Fred Keyee led off in the sixth inning, drawing a base on balls, and was forced out at second by Schwede. Johns followed drawing another pass and pushing Schwede to second. Hoye's perfect bunt the bases, but Schwede was out attempting to score as Grondabl reached first on a selder's choice. Lupien's snappy double to left drove in Johns and Hoye for two talks. Other runs were scored in the fifth and eighth frames.
