Harvard officialdom and alumni from all parts of the country are moving on to New Orleans this week for the annual meeting of the Associated Harvard Clubs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
President Conant will lead the exodus from Cambridge which will include William H. Claflin Jr., Treasurer; George H. Chase, Dean of the University; James M. Landis, Dean of the Law School; Henry W. Holmes, Dean of the School of Education, George F. Plimpton, Associate Dean of the College; Dr. David M. Little, Secretary to the university, and other members of the faculty.
Train Leaves Wednesday
Most of the official party, with members of the Harvard Club of Boston, will leave here on a special car on Wednesday noon for Chicago. New Yorkers will join the group in Albany, and other alumni will join the train en route to Chicago.
Other groups from St. Louis and Indianapolis will join the special Harvard train which leaves Chicago Thursday noon and arrives in New Orleans Friday morning.
Speakers at the opening session Friday evening, in a symposium on "Can Education Help Democracy Survive?", will be President Conant, Dr. Gummere, Chairman of the Committee on Admissions, and Arthur N. Holcombe, Professor of Government.
Saturday will be devoted to various forums and seminars conducted by University officials at which diversified activities will be explained and discussed. Presidents of some of the Harvard Clubs will also speak.
Annual dinner Saturday
That evening the annual dinner will be held with addresses by President Conant, Nathan Pereless, Jr., President of the Associated Harvard Clubs, and Archbald MacLeish, Curator of the Nieman Collection. Presiding will be Frans Blom, President of the Harvard Club of Louisiana.
The Mayor of Baton Rouge and the Governor of Louisiana will receive alumni in Baton Rouge on Monday. The party will be led by Dean George Chase, Dr. Little, and Dean Plimpton.
