"We would like to organize at Harvard and combat such un-American organizations as the Student Union," declared A. Edward O'Neil yesterday upon being questioned concerning his newly founded American Youth Movement.
O'Neil is one of the younger directors of the latest crusading organization for an American Utopia; he first saw the "light" sometime before the turn of the century. One of the objectives of the movement is to "combat and defeat all un-American movements" which O'Neil considers mainly as consisting of Communism and Fascism, but which he believes includes most youth organizations today.
The Youth Movement is going to support candidates for office who will be pledged to refrain from regulating business and industry, but who will also "relieve unemployment and guard the welfare of labor."
The real necessity for the movement, its Boston representative claims, is the fact that youth must be taught democratic principles which he believes the educational system does not teach now.
"One of the fundamental things that must be taught is respect for the flag," O'Neil continued. "I deplore the fact that a Teachers' Oath Bill is necessary, but I heartily support it."
