Denied Winter Campus Housing, International Students Scramble to Find Alternative Options
Now that Winthrop's undefeated football team has cinched the House championship, the last set of games in the 1939 series won't have much effect on the results of the league standings.
The Big Red gridders pushed a previously undefeated Dudley eleven all around the field last Thursday in handing them a 13 to 0 beating, and as Kirkland, the only other contender for the crown, was upset on the same afternoon by a surprising Bellboy eleven, the Puritans are far ahead of the rest of the field.
This means that even if Kirkland were to beat Winthrop tomorrow afternoon (an eventuality which is doubtful), the Puritan eleven would still be the one which will meet the champions of the Yale Inter-College league on Friday, November 17 at New Haven.
Calhoun, Say brook Favorites
Down in Eliville the race is still undecided, with both the Calhoun Senators and the Saybrook Seals in the running for the championship. Neither team has been defeated, but the Calhoun eleven has been held to a tie three times so Saybrook is likely to get the call.
As for the rest of the Harvard standings, Dudley is practically assured of second place. The Commuters meet a weak Leverett eleven tomorrow and ought to win without difficulty.
Third place is still in doubt with Kirkland and Dunster only a half game apart and with one game apiece to play. Since the Deacons have to play the champion Puritans tomorrow while Dunster has drawn the hapless Eliot eleven which has yet to win a game, the Punsters have the edge on the position.
Lowell May Tie Deacons
Lowell, whose opponent today is the weak eleven of Adams, is very likely to pull up into a tie with the Deacons if the expected happens and Winthrop overcomes the Deacons.
The last three teams are having a closer race than the first three. Leverett and Adams have each won one game while Eliot has won none. The Bunnies and the Merrimen have two games to play apiece, as their meeting was cancelled that last week and will be played Friday or next Monday.
The touch football league has a week to run before the standings are complete, but it looks now as though the undefeated Lowell eleven will come through ahead. The Yale winner will probably be Vanderbilt, and the two teams will meet here on Saturday, November 25.
