A hopeful varsity soccer team with a "we can beat them if we get a decent break" attitude takes the field this afternoon against a Yale eleven which forms the records, has an overwhelming advantage.
Yale has won eight games, tied one and lost only two, to Wesleyan and Springfield by 1 to 0 scores. The Crimson has won four and lost three, and two of the teams to which it has lost, Williams and Princeton, have been beaten by Elis. Yale also trounced Tech and Brown by 5 to 1 and 7 to 0 scores while Harvard only took those two teams by 2 to 0 and 4 to 0.
Still, comparative scores mean little in a Yale-Harvard tussle, and Crimson Captain Howie Mendel last night expressed confidence in the team's ability to win the crucial game this afternoon.
Eli Captain Leads League
The Elis, playing the European style of soccer, emphasized by their coach, Walter Leeman, came out of a mid season slump to upset the Tiger last week. Captain Tom Erickson at inside left, George Haines at outside left, and Bill Poole at goal are the Bulldog's leaders. Erickson with 12 points to his credit, is the League's highest scorer.
Harvard will be relying this afternoon on Jack Penson, sophomore goalie, to stop the Elis.
