With Captain Howie Mendel laid up by water on the Knee and fullback Dave Ives partially hindered by a bad charley horse, the soccer team will not have an easy time of its game with M. I. T. this afternoon on the Business School field.
Tech lost to an exceptionally strong Yale team Wednesday afternoon 5 to 1 and to Tufts Saturday 3 to 2, while the Crimson booters have beaten Tufts 2 to 1 and lost to Williams in a 3 to 2 overtime game.
The loss of Mendel, however, and the consistently poor showing of the eleven throughout the past week does not make Harvard as overwhelming a favorite as the comparative scores would indicate. The captain scored both the goals in the Williams game.
The starting line-up for the Crimson is indefinite because of the injuries to Mendel and Ives. It will probably consist of the following:
Penson or Hanford, goal; Ives or Davidge, right fullback; Doughty, left fullback; Barnes, right half; Edgar, center half; d'Autremont, left half; Halstead, right outside; Rousmaniere, right inside; Murphy, center; Willetts, left inside, and Page, left outside.
The Yardlings will also meet the M. I. T. Freshmen. Both games begin at 1 o'clock.
