COMMITTEE ON TENURE SELECTED BY COUNCIL

The Student Council last night appointed a sub-committee to draft a reply to the Committee to Save Harvard Education's petition, which asked the Council to "investigate the recent terminations of appointments of ten assistant professors."

The draft will be submitted to the full Council for approval when it meets again next Tuesday night.

During last night's four-hour session the Council consulted with two permanent members of the Faculty on the problems raised by the Administration's actions in handing terminating appointments to ten assistant professors last June.

Faculty Debating Issues

These issues are now being debated in a special series of Faculty meetings, one of which was held yesterday afternoon.

The petition which the Council will answer next week asked for an investigation "with a view to determining: one, the effect of the 'dismissals' on the quality of undergraduate teaching; and, two, the justification, or lack of justification, for them from an administrative standpoint."
