YOUNG CONSERVATIVES AGREE UPON PLATFORM

Michael Grace, as President, Releases Fifteen-Point Doctrine Opposed to Student Union

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Michael P. Grace '40, president of the newly formed "Young Conservatives," last night announced along with a platform statement that an ambitious program is being pushed by the organization to bring prominent speakers before open forums scheduled this spring.

The platform as agreed upon by the organization consists of 15 points. Some of the 15 are as follows:

10. We prefer private to public charities. Relief has been proved to be more efficiently administered through local than federal or state bureaus. Wages should be so low that workers will be glad to return to private employment. We favor depriving all persons on relief of the right to vote, until they again become self-supporting.

14. We favor neutrality in Asia and Spain, but deplore the suppression of Christianity there. We approve the President's policy of maintaining a large navy, and we favor a large merchant marine.

15. We oppose the repeal of the Teaches Oath Law and favor keeping the important profession of teaching synonymous with patriotism.

The platform concluded with the following statement:

"Of course in a concise statement of principles there is not space to give reasons for our stand. All members who would like to clarify these issues should telephone Trowbridge 9612, headquarters of the platform committee. If you prefer this platform to that of the Student Union, join the Young Conservatives."
