Famous French Mathematics Scholar Will Lecture Here on Own Theory of Integration and Conduct Class Seminar

While it was sending regiments to the frontier a few weeks ago, the French Government also found time to send to Harvard a scholar described by Joseph L. Walsh, Professor of Mathematics, as one of the greatest mathematicians ever to lecture here."

The arrival of Dr. Armand Denjoy, Chevalier of the Legion d'Honneur and honorary member of a dozen scientific societies, is attracting particular attention here because for six months mathematicians will be able to study the Denjoy theory of integration at first hand.

Those wishing to determine the area under a curve will have to understand French, however, because the visiting lecturer speaks only in that tongue, although he is not adverse to bilingual conversations.

In exchange for the French Mathematician, the University has sent to France Leigh Hoadley, who will lecture for the first semester, while Denjoy conducts a class and a seminar here.
