PHILADELPHIA, PA., Jan. 13: Named last night as Head Coach of the Pennsylvania football team was George Munger, formerly Freshman coach and Director of Freshman athletics. Presumably he will be coaching the Red Blue when that team meets Harvard in 1939 in a revival of football games between the two Universities.
Munger is young, only 28 years, having graduated from Penn in '38. In college he was a football star for three years, and his record as Freshman football coach is very successful, for his loss to the Cornell Freshman this fall has been his only defeat.
As an Undergraduate he was also a track star, being the Relay Carnival Decathalon champion in 1933. The terms of his new salary and his assistants were not revealed. His election gives him a position of the greatest responsibility as he must continue to uphold the University of Pennsylvania tradition of strong football teams.
